Homeplace on Green River
Plan Your Visit
Homeplace on Green River is a place to explore, slow down, and connect with Kentucky’s agricultural heritage, history, and natural landscape. Whether you’re coming for a walk, exploring our trails, attending an event, fishing through a membership, or simply spending some time on the farm, we look forward to welcoming you.
Open Daily, Dawn to Dusk
Homeplace’s grounds and trails are open to the public year-round from dawn to dusk.
You do not need to wait for a scheduled event to visit. Come walk the grounds, explore the trails, enjoy the scenery, take photographs, or simply spend some quiet time outdoors.
Regular visits to the grounds and trails are donation-supported rather than ticketed. As an independent nonprofit responsible for caring for the property, we appreciate donations and memberships from visitors who would like to help preserve Homeplace and keep it open for the community.
Please remember that Homeplace is also a working agricultural property. Crops, livestock, farm equipment, maintenance projects, and other agricultural activities are part of what you may encounter during your visit.
Access to some areas may occasionally be limited during special events, private rentals, farm operations, maintenance, or other scheduled activities.
Explore the Trails
Homeplace offers miles of hiking and running through farmland, woods, and the surrounding Green River landscape.
Our trailhead provides access to wooded trails that connect with neighboring conserved and historic lands, as well as Homeplace’s Agrarian Trail, which winds through approximately 200 acres of farmland. When connected routes are available, visitors can explore roughly 7 miles of trails.
Trail conditions are natural and can change with weather, fallen trees, erosion, seasonal growth, and ongoing maintenance. Some sections may occasionally be difficult to access or temporarily closed, particularly following storms or heavy rain.
Wear appropriate footwear, stay on established trails, and use good judgment while exploring.
Photographers
Homeplace’s historic buildings, barns, open fields, trails, gardens, and natural scenery make the farm a beautiful setting for photography.
Visitors are welcome to enjoy casual, personal photography while exploring the grounds during regular dawn-to-dusk access.
Homeplace also offers a Photographer Membership for professional photographers who use the property for client sessions. Photographer Members may bring clients onto the grounds when events are not taking place and receive information about upcoming events to help avoid scheduling conflicts.
If you are planning a paid or professional photo session, please review our current Photographer Membership information or contact Homeplace before your session. Access to particular buildings, reserved spaces, or areas being used for events or farm operations may require advance coordination.
Fishing at Homeplace
Homeplace’s pond is stocked with fish including bluegill, bass, catfish, and more.
Fishing access is available as a benefit of Homeplace membership. If you would like to fish the pond, visit our Membership page or contact us to learn about the current membership option that includes pond access and any applicable fishing guidelines.
Membership directly supports the preservation of Homeplace, maintenance of the property and trails, educational programming, and the community events that keep the farm active.
Events & Programs
While the grounds are open for everyday exploration, organized activities, demonstrations, historic building access, and special programs generally take place during scheduled events or arranged visits.
Homeplace hosts community and educational activities throughout the year, including our signature Spring Plow Day and Fall Heritage Festival, along with workshops, agricultural programs, meetings, and other special events.
Event dates, admission, activities, and hours vary. Check the individual event page before traveling for an event.
Groups, Schools & Organized Visits
Homeplace has long served as Kentucky’s Outdoor Classroom, using agriculture, conservation, history, and the natural environment as opportunities for hands-on learning.
Schools, homeschool groups, clubs, community organizations, agricultural groups, and others interested in arranging an educational visit, activity, meeting, or partnership are encouraged to contact us in advance.
Advance planning allows us to coordinate available spaces, activities, building access, and other needs to help make the most of your visit.
