The farm, with its classic Federal-style house built by Isaac Tate himself, became a symbol of prosperity and perseverance.
In 1801, Isaac and John Tate, young pioneers from Virginia, settled on this land. Isaac, with a vision and resources, constructed a brick house—a rarity of its time. The farm bloomed, producing tobacco, corn, and livestock. The Green River served as a vital artery for trade, connecting the farm to broader markets. The Tates thrived, adapting to the ebbs and flows of agricultural demand.
War and Resilience
The Civil War brought challenges as the farm stood in the path of armies. Crops were seized, and resources strained. A New Chapter: Preservation and Purpose
In 2001, the farm entered a new chapter, transitioning to a non-profit agritourism organization under The Nature Conservancy. It now celebrates and educates on rural heritage and sustainable living.
